Management

Students at the College of Forestry and Conservation have long been associated with sound, sustainable management of our nation’s natural resources. The Forestry major, with options in Forest Resources Management and Range Resources Management has led the way since the founding of the College in 1913. Our degrees in Recreation Management, Wildlife Biology, and Resource Conservation also have significant management components, and all of our undergraduate degrees emphasize sustainability of forests, grasslands, wildlife, and communities.

Management oriented graduate opportunities abound in the College. Silviculture, biometrics, recreation and park management, wilderness management, wildlife and fisheries management, watershed management, soil management, insect and disease management, natural resource economics and policy, and many other management topics are represented in the faculty interests of the College and thus are translated into opportunities for graduate education.

Research on management questions follows many of these undergraduate and graduate topics. Some particular management focused research is centered in the Mission Oriented Research Program, National Center for Landscape Fire Analysis, Inland Northwest Growth and Yield Cooperative, and the Forest Biometrics Research Program. Other programs of the Montana Forest and Conservation Experiment Station and the Rocky Mountains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit also deal with a large number of management topics.
