Forest Ecology Hike |
Our Forest Ecology Trail takes you through a mile and a half of second growth forests
which have been relatively untouched for the past half century, following severe logging
and forest fire in the 1920's.
Only a few university research projects have made any impact upon the natural systems of
this forest since the Cat House Fire of 1930.
Learn about the interactions between forest vegetation and indigenous wildlife, the
effects of forest shading upon the shrubs and forbs underneath the forest canopy.
An easy and enjoyable afternoon of forest trees, mushrooms, lightning strikes, animal
dens, bird watching and wildflowers. View the Swan Range and wilderness areas from a
special lunch stop.
