Wildlife Conservation Research

We are currently conducting long-term experimental studies using small mammals to address critical questions in wildlife management and conservation. Using nine enclosures (each about two acres in size), we are gaining insight into two primary issues. First, what specific management actions (for example, increasing survival rate of newborns versus survival rate of adults) will provide the greatest increase in population growth; this is essential information of managing endangered species. Second, how much movement is desired between isolated populations to minimize genetic problems; these experiments will help provide an operational definition for a "forest corridor."
